The ruling was delivered on Thursday, April 30, by Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha following a series of mobile court sessions held at Ggaba Community Church in Makindye Division, near the scene where the tragic incident occurred.

After a detailed hearing that lasted several days, the court convicted Okello on four counts of murder. The judge subsequently handed down the sentence after a brief recess, bringing the proceedings to a conclusion.

Court records indicate that the incident took place on April 2 at the Early Childhood Development Programme Centre, a facility operated by Ggaba Community Church. The victims included three boys and one girl who were at the centre during what had started as a normal day.

Prosecutors told court that Okello used a knife during the attack, which resulted in the deaths of the four children.

He was arrested and brought before court 11 days later, where he was formally charged with four counts of murder, one for each of the deceased children. Okello denied all charges throughout the trial.

The court’s decision now concludes the High Court process, though the convict retains the right to appeal the judgment within the legal timeframe.
