In recent days, photos of the minister looking noticeably leaner sparked speculation among netizens, with some questioning whether he might be unwell or dealing with personal challenges. However, Tumwebaze has moved swiftly to set the record straight.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the minister addressed the concerns head-on, emphasizing that his transformation is a deliberate health decision rather than a cause for alarm.

He expressed worry over what he described as a widespread misconception linking body size to health. According to Tumwebaze, many people still wrongly believe that being overweight is a sign of good health, while being slim suggests illness.

The battle against non-communicable diseases is far from being won,” he noted, calling on health professionals—including nutritionists, epidemiologists, and health educators—to intensify efforts in correcting such beliefs.

Tumwebaze explained that weight loss should only be concerning when it is unintentional or linked to underlying illness. In contrast, intentional weight loss achieved through dieting, increased physical activity, and lifestyle adjustments is something to be celebrated.

He stressed that maintaining a lean body is a positive health goal and encouraged people to shift their mindset, stating firmly that “obesity has never been a badge of honor.”

Addressing well-wishers who had sent him messages wishing him a quick recovery, Tumwebaze reassured them that he is in good health.

“I am not sick. My new looks are intentional. It’s well with me, and I thank God for the gift of life,” he affirmed.
