Eddy Kenzo, who also serves as President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, has shared his perspective on the growing trend of artists turning to TikTok Live to address their fans.

While he admitted that he personally isn’t a fan of the trend, Kenzo explained that it stems from the constant pressure and criticism artists face online.

According to him, many musicians have endured years of verbal abuse from fans, bloggers, and the general public, which has pushed some to use live sessions as a platform to defend themselves and clarify issues.

“You have abused them for a very long time, now is their time to speak up,” he said.

He noted that although he often encourages artists to rise above negativity and avoid engaging at the same level as their critics, the reality is that it’s not always easy to ignore such attacks.

Kenzo also highlighted that his own career journey has been different, as his breakthrough extended beyond Uganda to the international stage.

This, he said, gives him a level of stability where he can survive even outside active music work. However, he emphasized that for many artists, music is their primary source of income, making it necessary for them to constantly protect and defend their brand.

“Sometimes what goes around, comes around. It is now coming around and these artists are giving back exactly what they get,” he jokingly said.
