The iKON Awards team has once again secured a major collaboration, this time bringing together Ugandan and Kenyan talent. This comes after the team clinched a deal to co-produce a movie called Dambe, featuring Ugandans and their Nigerian counterparts.

Following the successful iKON Activate, Kenya edition, which took place last month, a new movie production has been launched, continuing iKON Awards’ mission to amplify African stories and foster regional collaborations.

Although the official title of the film and the Kenyan cast is yet to be revealed, we do know that the movie is sponsored by Reach A Hand Uganda, Imara TV and UNESCO, in partnership with iKON Awards under a project called O3plus, an acronym for Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future.

Uganda actors, Nicholleta Aber, Faith Kirabo and Nathan Katongole will play leading roles in the movie, and it will highlight the plight of gender based violence, teenage pregnancies and transactional sex among young people.

Humphrey Nabimanya, CEO iKON Awards has severally emphasized the importance of telling impactful relatable African stories through collaboration as a way to promote the industry across the globe. This is exactly what the upcoming movie is highlighting — issues facing our youth through movie co-production.

With the momentum from the Nigerian collaboration still fresh, this Ugandan-Kenyan venture not only reinforces iKON Awards’ influence in regional cinema but also strengthens the visibility of East African narratives on the global stage. Audiences can look forward to behind-the-scenes content, cast interviews, and an anticipated premiere.
