Ugandan singer Irene Ntale has opened up about the real-life inspiration behind her timeless hit Gyobera, revealing that the emotional song was born from her own experience dating a broke man years ago.

The song, released over eight years ago, remains one of her most loved tracks—and according to Ntale, its authenticity comes from a place of genuine youthful love.
Ntale shared that during that relationship, life was simple and responsibilities were few.
“We used to walk from Wandegeya to Ntinda and it was okay then. I had no responsibilities by then because I was still living with my mother and no bills to pay, so we even had that time to walk—but I don’t anymore,” she said.
She described the period as feeling “like a movie,” deeply in love and hopeful that the man she was dating would eventually become her husband. However, things didn’t work out, and the relationship ended.
Now married and happy, Ntale used her experience to advise young girls about love, growth, and self-worth.
“Every girl out there, I encourage you—before you think of marriage, first work on yourself and be hardworking so that when a man comes into your life, he’s going to value you. And if you’ve got an understanding man, he’ll want to add on that,” she advised.
